When they don't have this ability, they often can't finish their assignments and receive bad grades in school. ![]() Photo by Alla_G. (Footer for photo credit) How do you become a student who can manage time wisely and get everything done? Read the following three tips about time management for college students to find out. Time Management PlannersFirst of all, every college student should buy a new time management planner each year. This planner needs to be large enough that it will not get lost in a messy dorm room or apartment. Every time you are given an assignment, you should write it's due date in your planner. By doing this for all of your classes, you can stay organized and make sure that you are not going to miss any important work. Beware of Overextending YourselfSecondly, do not overextend yourself in college. Many students try to take too many classes, participate in too many clubs, and take on too many social obligations. This can lead you to become burned-out and filled with stress. Instead, only take the number of classes that you are sure you can complete the work for. You should also only participate in one or two clubs while in school. Future employees will be more impressed that you devoted a lot of your attention to one good cause rather than participating minimally in multiple clubs. Get Up EarlierThe final tip may be the most difficult one for college students to do; however, if you want to manage your time effectively, it is best to wake up early in the morning and go to bed early each night. By doing this, you will make sure that you stay healthy and refreshed. If you are tired during the day, you will not accomplish as much. Getting up late in the day is one of the biggest barriers to effective time management, because you will not be able to accomplish as much during the daytime hours when everybody is on campus. Time Management for College StudentsAlthough college may be very difficult to navigate for kids who have just graduated from high school, you do not have to think that keeping up with assignments will be a large problem. Keeping a weekly planner, not overextending yourself, and getting up early are all things that can help you become effective at managing your time. Honing these time management skills while you are in college will even serve to prepare you for the workplace, which is where your degree will ultimately take you. Where to Next?
